If your main reasoning is that the names are Similar and he has the same hair, that is a poor argument. So people started to discredit anyone who said he could be Obito, because the majority of those people were not supplying any credible evidence. It became anathema to actually think Tobi could be Obito, so everyone started to decide that would be the worst thing ever if it were true. When in reality, it makes the most sense, given all the evidence if you look in further, past the name, the hair, and the eye hole.

sorry but the hair is not that poor of an argument. that really does mean something in anime/manga. a good chunk of the time at least
