EDH Basic Rules
 

as some of you may know Magic the Gathering has a new very popular format called Elder Dragon Highlander or EDH. It is a format where they have 100 cards in their deck and only 1 of's in the deck. They only play the elements of their general.

My friends and I decided to take this new magic format and apply it to Naruto. I hope that many of you try this and it is a lot of fun.

Yes this is a multiplayer one but it is a fun one! You can play with jut two people though it is still a ton of fun.

Rules-
You will have an 80 card deck minimum. it may be as big as you want though
Your general doesnt count towards deck construction. it is 80 (or so) plus 1
You can only run 1 of a card.
You can run three different cards of the same name
There is no ninja limit.
You can only play the elements of your general.
The player who goes first does draw.
Turns go in clockwise order from whoever starts.

Mulligans:
You get one free mulligan back to 6.
You lose one card more after every time you mulligan just like normal. But you do not have to stop at 4. As far as anyone is concerned you may go to 1 in hand.

Your General-
IMPORTANT! your general starts FACE UP in its own RFG zone.
Your general will be a platoon.
Not a squad.
When it comes time that you want to put your general into play (if you wish to) You DO NOT have to have a ninja on the platoon in play. If you do normal platooning rules apply. EXCEPT if you have them both in play you may still platoon yet both platooned ninjas go to the chakra.
Your general MAY NOT be in play at the same time as one of the ninjas that is on your general.
Example: if you have itachi kisame in play you may not play itachi or kisame

If a card has two elements on it as long as one the elements is shared with your general you may play the card.

Clients- You may have multiple clients in play as long as they have different names

If any card targets "Both players" and you are playing a multiplayer game then you target all players.

Once again the above cards only apply towards being your general.

Putting your General into play:
This does count as your deployment for the turn!

When a General Dies:
Before you put your general into play he is RFG. Whenever your general would be PUT TO THE DISCARD you MAY CHOOSE to have him put back into the RFG instead. When your general has died and you wish to bring him back into play again he receives +2 hand cost. This effect does stack so it goes
+2, +4, +6, etc.
If it is put to your hand or the top of the deck it doesnt recieve +2 HC. that only happens when it goes to its RFG zone.

Notice above it only goes back to RFG if it would be put to the discard. So if it were to be put on the top of your deck that is where it would go.

MULTIPLAYER ONLY:
You play to 20 battle rewards.
Or your general's team wins 10 battle rewards. In a multiplayer format you need 8 battle rewards from one specific general to lose the game. In other words you could take 4 from two different generals and still be in the game

1 On 1 Match:
You play to 15 battle rewards.
Or your generals team wins 8 battle rewards.

General Rules:
If Your General Gets 8 Battle Rewards You Win The Game...

can generals be sent to BRs? in magic, if teh general dies or is RFG'd he goes back to command zone, but he can be bounced to hand or deck. in this game, if he goes to deck he could end up in BRs.

Great job though, I'm going to go make a deck.

EDIT: Also, I think Shizune/Tonton is a bit busted in this format. you can even have up to 6 tsunades (3 tsunade 3 5th) making her effect a blow out all game.

glad to hear your gonna make a deck zero. but yeah thats the one thing. it CAN go to battle rewards. if they seal it and get br's. then they got them.

also some generals we have made decks for already are:
rock lee and tortise
sasuke and orochimaru
itachi and deidara (took it apart though)
and izumo and kotetsu

Ok, just making sure on that.

I'm currently building Itachi/Kisame, because I always try to build with that platoon, but its just a bad card. So I'm super happy I can finally play with it.

I still think Shizune Ton ton should be banned as a general though. seems alittle too nuts to me.

Also, just to make sure, you cant have a kisame and a kisame platoon in play, even if the platoon is your general, right?

Naruto Gaara seems like ALOT of fun to build. That will be my next deck.

This looks like a very interesting idea. I will be sure to try it out!

My only question would be:

Does game play progress like normal?

arg. I'm having a lot of trouble building decks. Not enough early game on all the colors :(

Sneak in Gokus and Zoonamas, no one will ever know...

the rule for color should be:

Ninja cards with a Hand Cost in your deck can only have the elements of your general.

It opens the early game card pool, and would allow for some funky decks.
